Windows 7?

Let me preference this discussion with the fact we are a Microsoft Partner (meaning we get some sales and product support and the ability to subscribe (for a fee) and get the latest software, we are not bound to Microsoft in any way) We have been working with Windows since Version 1 (and DOS before that) we have gone through all the upgrades.

I am sure everyone has seen the Apple adds on how bad Vista is, it was an extremely effective advertising campaign. It brought the Macintosh up to about 11% of the PC market but Windows still controls the rest of the market. Apple capitalized on the first version of Vistas problems, and because of market dominance Windows is a bigger target every Scum Bag hacker, script kiddy, virus writer and "Security Expert" is writing viruses, worms and spyware to keep companies like Symatec, Mcafee among others in business (my biggest repair problems are due to virus and worm protection. If anyone reading this knows any of these people who write Viruses, Worms and Spyware they are not heroes they are criminals and please turn them over to the FBI, or shoot them (with all the trouble they cause I would be happy to pay for the bullets).

Do not get me wrong I really love Macs I own 4. I know corporate America did not want to upgrade to vista the reasons started with caution (corporate America has never been early adopters) cost and public and user perception. The first release of vista was a real pain device drivers were not available (this is the device manufacturers responsibility). Since Service Pac 1 Vista has been very solid I have been running the 32 and 64 bit versions and the only troubles I have had with them is the Anti-Virus software relates not Windows. But it is public perception.

The funny thing about the Mac Switch Adds and all the publicity about the problems that Windows Vista had it kept people from upgrading from an basically flawed operating system with allot more security problems to one with less problems giving the hackers (criminals) easier targets to perpetuate the problem.

Now for Windows 7 I have been using it since the beta about 7 months ago I have been running the beta then the release candidate on a net book an Acer Aspire one with no Vista support (I have been told this computer would not run Vista) from Acer let alone Windows 7 support. even without the support from the manufacturer it ran well and solid. Windows 7 has taken the best technology from Vista and refined it. It is what Vista should have been at the first release.

As a Microsoft Partner and Action Pac Subscriber I got the Release Version early (beginning of September) (I downloaded it and did not have to wait for the physical disks) I have installed it on my MacBook Pro (running Snow Leopard) in VMware Fusion with no problems and I upgraded my main production Machine the only software that would not run was QuickBooks 09 and that is only because of their copy protection and they are using, and I have contacted tech support and they are not supporting Windows 7 until QuickBooks 2010 (just released $179.00 per station upgrade price) As a software developer and a support person I find this unacceptable at this point I have tested and all my software is 100% Windows 7 compatible and I have had no problem with LuxRiot and I am even writing this on Windows 7. You would think a company like Intuit would do the same.

It is a faster more optimized Operating system they claim 68% increase in performance power 38% faster startup and 7 times faster shutdown. I have noticed speed increases while using the system whether the claims are true I do not have any reason to doubt it from my use.

I will be highly recommending upgrade to Windows 7 the easiest way is with a new machine or clean install an update will take hours and cannot be done from XP only Vista. Windows XP is nearing its end of life so there will be less and less support from Microsoft. I do not recommend the upgrade on machines more than 2 years old. All upgrades should be done off site preferably on a bench with many machines at a time because of the long load time, and you really do not want to pay a tech just to watch a machine.

Peace of Mind and a Credible Deterrent Starting as Low as $6.25 per Day ! ! ! . . . While You’re Running the Business  . . . We’re Keeping an Eye on the Store.
