Do It Yourself Information!

The first step in purchasing and installing your own system is evaluating your needs I use the following guidelines:

We cover the entrances and exits. We use the best quality camera and lens for the main entrance to get the best shot of faces for identification purposes megapixel cameras preferably 3 megapixel or better.
Cash register /POS we cover the drawer and customer and cashier views (possibly with the same cameras)
Items of value this can be inventory equipment that is subject to high value pilferage or damage.
Areas of liability (meaning can a customer or employee hurt themselves and hold you liable) a camera costs much less than a law suit. Wet floor areas (slip & fall) (no restrooms or changing areas it is illegal)
Contrary to popular belief you can not see everything you need to prioritize your cameras possibly prewire future camera locations plan for your needs. It generally cost more to redo something than to do it all together initially.

When evaluating your system needs ask yourself if you want to prosecute or identify subjects from the video if not you may be able to get away with a bullet camera (we do not encourage the use of these unless the cost is really a major factor). Remember it cost about the same to install a inexpensive system as a comparable expensive system. Many times we have seen attempts at being frugal costing more than double what it would have cost.

We see the future of video security systems and traditional analog cameras are on the way out and digital network cameras (also known as IP cameras) are the future. If you can not afford the megapixel cameras at least install network cameras so upgrading will not require rewiring.
